The origin

Nobody got out

There was a fire. That much is certain. The tent went up with the show already running and, once the flames were out, not one performer was found.

You do not cancel a show over a thing like that. Not here, anyway. The acrobats kept climbing, the clown kept telling the same joke, and the orchestra did not stop playing — not even after there was no orchestra left.

They are still at it. They pitch the tent somewhere new each season, repeat that night's running order exactly, and wait for somebody to buy a ticket. This autumn, that somebody is you.

The show

It starts before you sit down.

The moment you step through the gate you are part of the act. Nobody here waits for the lights to go down.

  1. Getting in is part of the act

Come an hour early. Before the big top there is a warm-up and a horror tunnel, and the characters are loose among the crowd from the first minute. None of them is going to wait for you to settle in.

  2. Circus cabaret, not a fairground ride

This is Le Cirque Zoppis, who have been pitching tents in the Canaries for years. Real circus acts with the nerve of a cabaret, performed by people who know how to do them. The horror is the wrapping; the craft is the real thing.

  3. Fear you can feel

Some moments are built to frighten you properly, especially on the way in and in the opening act. This is not a haunted house with puppets jumping out of corners. It is very good performers doing it very well, a metre away from you.

  4. And you will laugh

A lot. That is what separates this from a ghost train. Between the scares there is adult humour, the kind you would not repeat in front of certain people. You leave with your pulse up and your jaw aching.

The cast

Still on the payroll

A clown with cracked make-up and a burnt ruff, lit by firelight.

Master of ceremonies

PorCulo

The first thing you see and the last thing you get away from. He smiles the entire time. That is precisely the problem.

A performer with horns and long braids reaching a hand out towards the audience through the flames.

The one in charge

Infierna

She does not ask permission, she does not explain herself, and it is unwise to hold her gaze for too long. If she picks you for the act, there is no graceful way out.

What people usually ask

Under-16s are not admitted, and we recommend it for ages 18 and over. This is not a family show: there is explicit horror, provocation and adult humour.

An hour before your performance: 7 pm Wednesday to Friday; 5 pm or 7:45 pm on Saturdays; 4 pm or 6:45 pm on Sundays; 5 pm on Monday 12 October. That is when the warm-up and the horror tunnel happen, outside the main tent.

No. It is a circus cabaret with a real big top and a real company, staged by Le Cirque Zoppis. Horror is the tone of the show, not a dark corridor with people jumping out at you.

Yes, and that is the intention — particularly on the way in and in the opening act. The humour comes in after that and evens things out, but we are not here to tickle you.

About two hours, with a 15 to 20 minute interval. Add the hour beforehand that we recommend for the entrance and the horror tunnel.

No. Your ticket carries a QR code: showing it on your phone at the gate is enough.

From €14. The price depends on the seating area and the performance date. Buy online and your ticket arrives as a QR code on your phone.

At Parking CC Alisios, opposite Leroy Merlín, in Tamaraceite, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. You can see the tent from a distance.

It is circus, so most of it needs no translation at all: acrobatics, fire, physical comedy and a good deal of screaming. The spoken parts are in Spanish, and you will not be lost without it.
